Project Overview

Mnemonic is setting up the Ukrainian Archive to preserve at-risk open source materials related to the ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine, to contribute to verification and tagging of archived content, to conduct investigations into international crimes and human rights violations committed in Ukraine as well as to consolidate open source materials in order to support independent and fair criminal investigations and criminal proceedings at both national and international level. This work will include building the capacity of Ukrainian journalists, human rights defenders and lawyers to contribute to the Ukrainian Archive.

Objectives

Project activities include: collecting and preserving open source materials, verifying open source materials; cataloging and processing open source materials through Mnemonic’s Elfehrest annotation platform; consolidating evidence for accountability purposes. In context of this work, The Ukrainian Archive team will collaborate closely with Ukrainian and international journalists, human rights organisations, advocacy groups and accountability institutions.

The Project Manager of the Ukrainian Archive Project will ensure a day-to-day management of project activities in coordination with the Mnemonic’s Executive Director and Project team, liaising with International and Ukrainian organisations and providing the project team and stakeholders with the appropriate technical and managerial support as needed.

Tasks and deliverables

The Project manager will support the Mnemonic team in performing the tasks mentioned below and make sure that the activities align with the project’s overall objectives and expected outcome.

Project Management

  • Creating the Ukrainian Archive team work plan for 2022/2023 to implement the project activities with the support of the Executive director, the operations and the technical teams;
  • Coordinating tasks with the Ukrainian Archive team members and Mnemonic’s senior staff members;
  • Applying and integrating Mnemonic’ Standard Operating Procedures into project implementation;
  • Supervising the Ukrainian Archive team members;
  • Maintaining oversight on all collaborations of the project;
  • Reporting to the Executive Director on project’s update and achievements.

Project Activities

  • Coordinating the capacity building activities of the Ukrainian Archive team, and for the external partners;
  • Coordinating, networking and establishing collaborations with Ukrainian and International partners;
  • Ensure technical requirements and project’s goals are met.

Level of effort and duration

The assignment is expected to take place in the time period from May 02, 2022 to April 30, 2023 for a full-time position depending on the candidate’s experience. Mnemonic’s headquarters is based in Berlin, Germany, but candidates applying to work remotely will be considered.

Reporting

The project manager will report to the Mnemonic Executive Director.

Terms of payment

Payment will be made monthly, upon submission of approved timesheet and satisfactory report.

Qualifications

  • Degree in law, journalism, political science, or a related field, or 3 years equivalent experience;
  • Experience in project and grant management (at least three years), ideally in NGO sector;
  • Experience in team management (at least three years), ability to support and mentor project members;
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills; ability to set clearly defined and realistic objectives;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build and sustain relationships with multiple partners and stakeholders;
  • Independent, hands-on, reliable, and quality-oriented way of working;
  • Solid public speaking skills (ability to represent the project to funders, stakeholders, partners);
  • Fluency in oral and written English, Ukrainian and Russian.
