People in Need works in the field of humanitarian and development cooperation, support for human rights and social inclusion. Our Relief and Development Department currently employs more than 1,300 people in 22 countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Currently, we are looking for a new colleague to join the team in Prague with a focus on supporting the People in Need’s Knowledge & Learning Department (KLD). The Department provides technical support to PIN’s teams all around the world in order to ensure the maximum quality of their humanitarian and development work.

What role would you have?

This role is an exciting opportunity for a bachelor’s or a master’s student or graduate who wants to pursue a career in geography in the context of the humanitarian and development sector with a great desire to learn. You will have the opportunity to learn about People in Need activities, to gain NGO work experience, and gain knowledge of technical areas related to humanitarian and development programming. You will have primarily a supporting role and work closely with the KLD’s Technical Advisors; Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEAL) Unit. You will have the opportunity to be involved in analytical processes, in PR, positioning and reporting activities as well as in developing various specific guidance materials or manuals.

GIS officer work in the organization is built in such a way that the you will gain relevant experience which would be useful future employment in the development and / or humanitarian field, both in People in Need and in other organizations.

What will be the scope of your work?

Details are described in ToR, but main responsibilities are listed here:

Geo spatial data collection, processing, cleaning, batch data conversion etc.
ArcGIS database management
Public communication activities – story maps creation, dashboards, data visualisations
ArcGIS licences provider liaising
Following new trends in GIS and promotion to country programs

Our new colleague should have…

·University degree or student (preferably in the last year of bachelor’s program or in master’s program)
High knowledge of Esri software – ArcGIS Desktop, ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro – map programs.
Practical experience with ArcGIS Online and its features (for hosted feature layers and related tables). Web map creation and data preparation for mobile apps such as Collector, Fieldmaps, or Survey 123. Data processing, analyzing and presenting (story maps). Usage of Dashboards and connection to Power BI.
Basic knowledge of programming (SQL, Arcade, Java) is advantage but not necessity.
Knowledge of Qgis and its extensions is also advantage but not necessity.
Have IT proficiency, knowledge of MS Office package, especially higher Excel skills, experience with Power BI. Knowledge of MS Teams, Zoom, KoBo Toolbox are an advantage but not essential.
Have at least C1 English proficiency (communication with colleagues and all internal documents are in English; knowledge of additional languages is a strong plus: French, Russian, Portuguese, Arabic).
Ability to process and clean large amount of data (in excel)
Have attention to detail
Be reliable, flexible and take a positive approach to new challenges
Be a fast learner, able to improvise, work independently as well as in a team environment
Interest in humanitarian and development work is advantage
