Habitat for Humanity International is looking for a qualified consultant to coordinate the organization of the first Middle East & North Africa Housing Forum, to be held in November 2022.

Introduction and background

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Since the founding in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has helped more than 22 million people meet their affordable housing needs in more than 70 countries.

HFHI works through a broad network of national Habitat organizations and other strategic partners, such as corporations, financial service providers, individuals, non-governmental organizations, foundations, local governments, as well as the private sector actors. HFHI supports program and project implementation by national HFH organizations and directly implements some projects and programs regionally.

Short description of the project

Building on successful housing forums in Europe, Africa and Asia-Pacific, the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) Housing Forum is a key initiative of the Habitat – Hilti partnership. The MENA housing forum will serve as a primary platform to convene broad stakeholders with an interest in shelter, housing and human settlements across the MENA region.

The MENA Housing Forum Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the organization of the 2022 MENA Housing Forum in November 2022. The MENA housing forum will be predominantly a virtual event, however with some face-to-face events, which will be held in Egypt.

Supported by a regional team, this consultant will serve as the overall lead to ensure successful preparation and delivery of the MENA housing forum – including content, relationships, logistics and process. In doing so, this position will coordinate internally with the HFHI team (Internal Advisory Group), as well as with external stakeholders, partners and co-organizers of the MENA Housing Forum (Forum Steering Committee). The consultant will also coordinate and liaise with peers from other regional forums (Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia-Pacific, Africa) and within the EMEA internal team.

The preferred location of this position is in Egypt, although other key locations in the MENA region may be considered

Scope of work and deliverables

The Consultant is expected to:

Support with the mapping of key stakeholders to be included as Forum co-organizers, and engage with existing relationships both internally and externally.
Serve as the primary liaison with key NGO, government, and donor partners engaged in the MENA housing forum.
Serve as the primary point of Contact within HFHI, ensuring regional leadership and key representatives are updated and engaged as needed.
Coordinate work of external Steering Group and internal Advisory Committee.
Attend key relevant events for coordination, information gathering and/or networking
Lead and coordinate an efficient planning process in the lead-up to the Housing Forum
Lead and coordinate on respective logistics, procurement and budgetary needs within the broader preparation phase.
Input and advice on key content and themes to be discussed during the Housing Forum.
Contribute to development and implementation of HFHI’s strategy to the MENA Region.
Engage in and advise on communication strategies and effective virtual housing forum modalities.
Work closely with internal and external partners to ensure a successful Housing Forum delivery.
Document forum findings and recommendations into a concise report.


It is expected that the consultant will be working up to 40 hours per week. The consultant will be paid on a monthly basis, at a negotiated Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) rate

This consultancy is anticipated to be a 8-month duration (expected months: May – December 2022), with a possibility of extension



Years of Related Experience: 5 years+ in international cooperation, with experience in partnership development, and/or event organization and management;
Experience in coordinating diverse stakeholder groups and interdepartmental groups;
Good understanding of international development and humanitarian institutions and policy frameworks;
Strong coordination and facilitation skills;
Excellent communication skills, flexibility, and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment;
Education: Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred;
Fluency in English and Arabic;
Understanding of housing and human settlements issues, and priorities and themes across the MENA region will be a plus
